What To Pack For A Day In The Desert

Booked your stay and planned your activities for your vacation in the desert, but stuck on what to pack? No matter what you’re planning on doing, here is a list of the essentials to bring with so nothing gets left behind!

Sunscreen

All year long in the desert the sun is shining. Sunscreen should be at the top of everyone’s list of what to pack while heading towards the desert. We recommend packing a sunscreen with a high SPF to make sure you are protected while spending the day in the sun. It can be beneficial to bring face sunscreen as well as chapstick containing SPF to prevent dry, cracked lips.

Extra Water

It is always important to stay hydrated while spending time in the desert. Whether you are exploring the beautiful red rocks of Bryce Canyon or simply going for a scenic drive through the national park, it’s a good idea to keep water close by. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle so you can refill throughout the day.

Hat And Sunglasses

Make sure your eyes are staying protected from the sun while hiking and exploring. Packing a hat and sunglasses will shield your eyes from the harmful rays while still allowing you to have fun and see all that Bryce Canyon has to offer. Keeping a hat on will also prevent sunburn on your face and scalp.

Portable Charger

Keeping a portable charger on hand is a good idea for those hikes that keep you out for a while. Having a charged phone is beneficial if you are looking for hiking routes, or in case of an emergency. It’s also important to remember to take memorable pictures throughout the day with a charged phone. Packing a smaller-size portable charger is ideal to save space in your bag and for a lighter weight backpack.

Light Layers & A Blanket

Make sure you pack a light coat or flannel when planning what to bring to the desert. This will come in handy when it gets cooler towards the end of the day. A light coat can also be used as another form of protection from the sun if needed. Packing a small blanket can be useful when you want to take a break from exploring to sit and look out at the beautiful scenery. It is recommended that you bring a blanket that can be folded easily and not take up too much space in your luggage or hiking backpack.
